The prupose of the journey was to meet up with AfS clients and contact partners in Ethiopia and to take a look at the different training sites in Addis Ababa and surrounding area.
Besides the National Stadium, Andre and Daniel visited the highest training field in the area of Addis Ababa, the Mount Entoto on 3.000m above sea level and the well-crowded Janmida training ground at 2.470m above sea level.
Another training camp was visited in the Sulutra area on 2.750m and the Tirunish Dibaba national training centre 175km south of Addis Ababa in Assela.
"The visit at the various training centres and fields have given us a close inside of the training facilities and conditions in Ethiopia. Some of the places are surely applicable for groups from Europe", Andre Thomson summerized the multiple impressions.

Marketing activities expanded for German Meetings Athletics Series 2012

With the launch of a "German Meetings Cup 2012" the organisation want to give a closer focus towards local and national athletes. Further special prizes for the Athletes of the Year 2012 will be honoured.
Advertising material, such as Banners, Flags, Posters and Advertising in magazines will be started. The activities will further be followed by the idea of a GM Magazine and presentational events and Championships.
The decisions were made at the annual meeting of the German Meetings organization in Berlin on November 12th.
Ibarguen and Villar shine at PanAmerican Games

Colombian World Championships Bronze medalist triple jumper Caterine Ibarguen underlined once again her exeptional position in the world elite. Ibarguen won the triple jump infront by far of Cuban Olympic Champion Yargelis Savigne with 14m92. Her first PanAmerican title in her career.
110m Hurdler Paulo Villar surprised with a new Personal Best and National record of 13.27s with winning the Silver medal. Villar, who suffered this and last year with injuries, presented himself in the best shape of his life. He will now focus to participate for the next indoor season in Europe with the highlight of the World Indoor Championships 2012 in Istanbul.

The 1992 born in Morocco competed his first race after 14 months at the Gulf Countries Games in Manama/Bahrain in 3:37.50min on the 1500m finishing 2nd only behind his home fellow Ali abubakr Kamal. "I am feeling great and was looking forward to finally compete again. Now I am feeling very delighted to look forward to the Olympic Games next year", Al-Garni comment on his great start-off after injury.

Bottrop Gala 2011 2nd best Meeting in Germany

In the world rankings, the Bottrop Gala could also make a huge leap forward. It currently ranks at number 38 in the world (2010 - 69th). So the meeting is in front of a few other high-profile competitions in the world and only one place behind the IAAF Grand Prix in Dakar.
Meeting Director Andre Thomson expressed his delight at the good position of the Bottrop Gala: "2nd place in Germany and 38th worldwide by far surpasses our expectations. That is also a sign of good cooperation between all parties involved in Bottrop and the excellent conditions we have created for the athletes. The overall result will motivate our work, but also the level of the event for the following years is further higher. We put every effort to organize in the Olympic year 2012 a high profile event and we hope to have an even more interest from the economy to such a high profile, international sporting events in the Ruhr region to continue to make progress and support. "

Tatiana Dektyareva advanced to final with SB 12.76s, Beate Schrott (AUT), Briggite Merlano (COL) and Lina Flores (COL) couldnt make it to the final. Flores equaled her PB with 12.94s1500m Men Final:
Abdalaati Iguider (MAR) became 5th place, being 3rd place on the final 1000m but being overtaken by 2 runners on the last meters. This was Iguiders best placement in an outdoor World Championships.100mH Women Final:

100mH Women Heats: Tatiana Dektyareva (RUS), Briggite Merlano (COL), Beate Schrott (AUT) through to semifinal, only Marina Tomic (SLO) out in 1st round.
200m Men Heats: Sandro Viana (BRA) and Amr Seoud (EGY) as 2nd placers to semifinals, but later in the afternoon Viana was DQ by false start and Seoud out, Sebastian Ernst (GER), Ben Youssef Meite (CIV) and Daniel Grueso (COL) couldnt get through to the semifinal.
4x400m Women Heats: Janin Lindenberg (GER), as part of the German Relay Team, couldnt reach the final.
800m Women Semifinal: Halima Hachlaf (MAR) and Zahra Bouras (ALG) couldnt reach the final. Hachlaf got pushed just 2000m before the finish and Bouras had to slow down due to a muscular problem.

1500m Men Semifinal: Abdalaati Iguider (MAR) qualified for the 1500m Final in a tactical race. Zebene Alemayehu (ETH) couldnt get through to the final.
3000m Steeple Men Final: Hamid Ezzine (MAR) placed 9th in the steeple chase final.
Javelin Women Qualification: Katahrina Molitor (GER) was the first thrower in Group A and qualified overall 3rd best for the final with her first throw.
800m Women Heats: Halima Hachlaf (MAR), Rosibel Garcia (COL) and Zahra Bouras (ALG) were all Top 4 automatic qualifier for the semifinals.
4x400m Relay Men: The German Relay Team with Thomas Schneider and Eric Krüger qualified as 5th fastest team to the final. The fastest time a German Team did since 1995.
Shotput Men Qualification: Marco Schmidt (GER) barely missed the final with a overall 13th place in the Qualifying.
Javelin Women Qualification: Katahrina Molitor (GER) was the first thrower in Group A and qualified overall 3rd best for the final with her first throw.
Longjump Men Qualification: Mohamed Fathalla (EGY) was out with 3 fouls.

3000m Steeple Men Heats: Strong race by Hamid Ezzine (MAR) qualifying for finals as 4th best in 8:11min. Steffen Uliczka (GER) unfortunately fell at the steeple in the middle of the race and couldnt catch up with the rest of the group. Also Abdelkader Hachlaf (MAR) out in the heats due to injury.

Decathlon: Larbi Bouraada (ALG) finishing with the fastest 1500m of all athletes with a good overall 10th place.

800m Men Newcomer Rafith Rodriguez (COL) won his heat in 1:48.26min. over US champion Robinson and Hungarian top runner Kazi qualifiying directly to the semifinals. Mahfoud Brahimi (ALG) was faster in 1:46.94min. in 4th place in a fast race with World Champion Rudisha. He qualified 3rd fastest for the semifinals.
100m Men AfS sprinters Zakari (GHA), Emelieze (NGR), Ben Youssef Meité (CIV) and Alvaro Gomez (COL) out in the first round of the 100m heats.
Moroccan Athlete Halima Hachlaf signs with P&G Olympic Projects

Halima Hachlaf is one of the leading runners on the 800m since 2 years with a personal best of 1:58.27min. Hachlaf began her international career at an early age, competing in the 800 metres at the 2003 World Youth Championships in Athletics when she was fourteen. At the 2004 World Junior Championships the following year, she recorded a personal best of 2:06.44 and reached the event final, finishing ninth. At the 2005 World Youth Championships she was fourth.
She reached the semi-finals of the 2006 World Junior Championships in Athletics and ran in 2007 a personal best of 2:02.60 at a meeting in Biberach, Germany – a mark which made her the third fastest junior woman that year. She won two medals at the 2007 African Junior Championships in Athletics, taking the silver in the 800 m and a bronze in the 1500 metres.
The 2009 season brought significant improvements for Hachlaf. She set a new best time of 2:00.91 for the silver medal at the 2009 Mediterranean Games. She competed at her first global senior competition the following month, the 2009 World Championships in Athletics. Hachlaf recorded the fifth fastest qualifying time in the heats stage, but she did not manage to finish the semi-finals, dropping out mid-race. She closed her year with an appearance at the 2009 Jeux de la Francophonie, where she won another silver medal.
At the start of the outdoor season 2010 she scored an unexpected win over her compatriot Hasna Benhassi at the Meeting International Mohammed VI d'Athlétisme de Rabat in a personal best run of 2:00.63. A few days later she ran at the Golden Gala in Rome and had a significant victory over World Championship medallists Janeth Jepkosgei and Jenny Meadows. She comfortably won in a time of 1:58.40 at the Diamond League meeting, improving her best by over two seconds and scoring her first major win of her career.
